Coburg North
geranium room is a modest alteration to a two bedroom double red brick house in the Ernest Fooks Newlands Estate (1940-53). The brief included the desire to respect the heritage dwelling while increasing amenity to the living areas through a kitchen reconfiguration and increased storage areas.
Fooks' original Newlands Estate design includes a response to the principles of the landscape and place which the proposed design seeks to honor by prioritising garden area over enlarged interior spaces. The material and formal language of the proposal responds to the existing red brick and simple lines of the Estate.
An additional bedroom in thoughtfully included resulting in a layered, functional design that accommodates a growing family and is a simple and budget conscious addition to a standard type house in the Newlands Estate.
