house down south is the refurbishment of a holiday beach house shared between multiple generations, their families and friends. The house has been in the family for decades, so strong emotional ties to the existing house were balanced with required updates including the treatment of dampness and an interior refresh.  

The project is staged, with stage one to include a new interior refit of an existing studio cottage on site. This cottage was to provide accommodation to the family while work on the main house was carried out. As a small studio accommodation predominantly used by families with toddlers, the brief was for a robust and budget friendly fit out. Budget-conscious choices included off-the-shelf flatpack joinery dressed with custom knobs and handles. The main space is designed to be a multi-functional living and sleeping area to maximise the small floor area.  

Stage two includes a full interior refit of the main house a reconfiguration of the kitchen/living/dining space, new finishes throughout, and a new ensuite and pergola. The design is casual but elegant with neutral materiality and a strong sense of outdoor living. 

A warm grey paint finish throughout along with linen curtains softens the space and a simple bathroom is easy to clean up after sandy feet.
